Caritas Christi was established in 1985 as a result of the foresight of Bernard Cardinal Law and his idea that Catholic hospitals in Massachusetts should work together to achieve not only clinical success, but to benefit from economies of scale. This concept of forming a system of hospitals was born long before other health care systems were forming.
Since then, Caritas Christi has doubled in size, and has broadened its scope to offer a full continuum of health services, to care for patients from the very beginning of life to its natural end.
Today we are one of the largest healthcare systems in New England, providing community-based medicine and tertiary care in eastern Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Each Caritas Christi system member carries its own history of outstanding health services and compassionate patient care, contributing to the tradition of excellence that defines Caritas Christi. We are committed to respecting the human dignity of everyone served.
Our Mission Statement:
Caritas Christi is a Catholic Health Care System rooted in the history of the Archdiocese of Boston. As a community of health care providers, we affirm Christ's healing ministry, foster excellence in care, and commit ourselves to those in need in accordance with the principles of the Catholic Church.
Through our programs and services, which cover the spectrum of health care, we affirm the sanctity of life, advocate for the poor and disenfranchised, and exercise responsibility for the common good. With just stewardship of our human and material resources, we pledge to strengthen this health care ministry through sound health care practice, research, education and innovation.
